The Darker Side Of Victory

Like Time magazine in 2005, it's speculated that Kasim Reed’s political operation “O.J. Simpson-ed” a political opponent in the Atlanta school board race.

In neighborhoods that are quickly gentrifying, Reed’s political machine altered photos to make the opponent’s skin tone appear darker then it is in real life while asking, ironically, “Would You Trust Someone Like This With Your Children?”

Sadly the AJC missed the story and stepped over the body in its reporting of the crime.

“In a year of scandal and leadership change at Atlanta Public Schools, talk of cross-dressing and dirty rap lyrics has dominated the final days of a district election to the school board.”

For the moment, put aside the cross-dressing and dirty rap lyrics. The below two mailers tell a larger story and illustrate exactly what Reed’s political machine is capable of and prepared to do.

Business Threatening Lawsuit Over Airport Contract

WAGA Fox 5's veteran city hall reporter Morse Diggs says the airport concessions lawsuits will begin this week if Mayor Reed refuses to go with the highest bidder.

It is unclear why the Reed Administration is recommending a company that is guaranteeing FEWER DOLLARS to the city but it’s likely a pending lawsuit will reveal whether friends of the mayor are involved.

It’s time to raise the tent and bring in the clowns.

Reed: Little Interest In Legal Violations at Airport

According to WSB-TV’s investigation, Mayor Reed is turning a blind-eye toward so called “Labor Brokers” at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. According to the investigation, labor brokers hire construction works but do not collect or pay proper taxes for the work, a violation of local, state, and federal laws. According to the report, “Mayor Reed has shown little interest in legal violations” occurring at the airport and has provided “no details” about its own investigation into the allegations.

An Offer She Can't Refuse?

Mayor Reed’s Godfather–styled human resource skills have been horribly misplayed but entertaining. In recent weeks, the city’s CFO and lead airport procurement officer have been proverbially whacked.

Don Reed has a problem he cannot seem to make go away.

According to WSB’s heavy weight fighter Richard Belcher, a dispute over Atlanta Housing Authority’s head is at a standstill.

Don Reed has sent his own Fredo Corleone to make an offer she cannot refuse. Dan Halpern is leading the charge but doesn’t seem to be able to close the deal.

It’s Never the Crime. It’s Always the Cover-up.

An investigation shows two additional city officials are now implicated in the case involving Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed. City records show the Mayor’s brother, Tracy Reed, operated a city vehicle without the proper permission or authorization. Previous media reports show Tracy Reed has been without a valid drives license for several years. That Reed's Brother has an active warrant for his arrest for a failure to appear before a judge. All the while, Reed’s brother claims he didn't know why his license was suspended.

Give Money...Get Opportunities

WAGA-Fox 5’s investigative reporter Dale Russell speaks with William Perry, of government watchdog group Georgia Common Cause.

“They gave that amount of money, not because they want a better city of Atlanta, but better opportunities for their business,” says William Perry.

A government watchdog group says it is worried about the perception of cronyism with Atlanta’s massive food and beverage contracts at the airport.

Airport Contracts Have Dogged Reed

WAGA-Fox 5’s investigative reporter Dale Russell broke the news about Atlanta’s airport concessions scandal. Airport contracts have dogged Reed for months starting earlier this year when he accepted more than $20,000 from a family seeking a contract at Atlanta’s airport. According to Russell’s report, at the heart of the hullabaloo is Reed’s top political advisor, Dan Halpern.
